Food Safety & Allergen Disclosure
At Eat Florida Seafood, freshness and quality are our top priorities. Because seafood is a perishable product, proper handling — both by us and by you — is essential to enjoying it safely. Please read the information below before consuming any product purchased from us.
Proper Handling Upon Delivery
Immediately refrigerate or freeze your seafood upon delivery, according to the product's specific storage instructions.
Fresh (non-frozen) seafood should generally be refrigerated at or below 40°F and consumed within 1-2 days of delivery.
Frozen seafood should be kept frozen until you're ready to thaw and prepare it, and should be thawed safely in the refrigerator, under cold running water, or as part of the cooking process — never at room temperature.
If your seafood arrives at an unsafe temperature or shows signs of spoilage (off odor, discoloration, slimy texture), do not consume it. Contact us within 24 hours as described in our Shipping Policy.
Safe Cooking Guidance
Seafood should be cooked to a minimum internal temperature of 145°F, or until flesh is opaque and separates easily with a fork, per FDA guidance.
Use a food thermometer when possible to confirm proper internal temperature.
Risks of Raw or Undercooked Seafood
Consuming raw, undercooked, or improperly handled seafood may increase the risk of foodborne illness. This risk may be higher for:
Pregnant or nursing individuals
Young children
Older adults
Individuals with weakened immune systems or chronic illness
If you or someone you're serving falls into one of these groups, please consult the FDA's guidance on seafood consumption or speak with a healthcare provider before consuming raw or undercooked seafood.
Allergen Information
Our facility processes multiple types of seafood and shellfish, including but not limited to shrimp, crab, lobster, and finfish.
Products may come into contact with shellfish and other allergens during processing and packaging, even if a specific product does not itself contain shellfish.
If you have a shellfish allergy or any other food allergy, please consider this risk of cross-contact before ordering.
Eat Florida Seafood is not responsible for allergic reactions resulting from cross-contact in a shared processing facility, and we do not currently offer certified allergen-free processing or packaging lines.
Our Commitment to Freshness
We inspect and pack every order at our Key Largo facility before it ships, and we use insulated packaging with gel packs to help maintain safe temperatures during transit. That said, once a package leaves our facility, proper handling on arrival is essential to food safety — please refer to the guidance above and to our Shipping Policy for freshness claims and delivery issues.
